pacific palisades, california

Currently in design development, this house sits cliffside with views across Santa Monica Canyon and to the Pacific Ocean beyond. The iconic forms recall simple, traditional barns that dot the rural American landscape from New England to California, enduringly contemporary in their unadorned plainness. Here they are used in multiples, slightly askew, to reduce the volume of a large house and to pair specific spectacular views with each of the primary rooms. The exterior material palette and details are restrained, matching aesthetics with the requirements of building in a high fire danger zone. All interior spaces are programmed for daily use by an active family that lives an informal, indoor/outdoor life. This house is about kids, dogs, friends, and lots of commotion.
